Let’s Get Naked
I was talking about naked cakes. What did you think I was talking about?
I’d imagine though this cake is good to have when you’re naked. You and your special someone sitting in the kitchen eating this sweet indulgence. No, you’re not sitting at the table, because that’s not what naked people do in the kitchen. You’re sitting on the floor by the fridge because you couldn’t make it anywhere far craving to have that first taste right away. Sweet frosting is covering the skin of your bodies with a warm sugary layer and a tangy strawberry juice is tingling at the tip of your tongue. Delicate merengues are unapologetically smashed under the weight of your desire to have it all in that instant. You’re spread on the floor devouring this rare deliciousness like you’ve never had anything more exquisite in your entire life.
I’m still talking about cake. And what did you think it was?
I’d imagine this cake is good to eat when you’re naked but it was quickly consumed by a bunch of girls, dressed, in layers, as all of us have issues with being constantly cold, but we did talk about various sexual escapades, because that’s where the subject generally veers off at like 3 am.
Yesterday was the first time in months I was able to get together with my girlfriends. I’m still in a recovery mode so we just got together at one of the girls place as I’m not strong enough for any full-on nights out in the city. We generally hang out till late into the night, or morning rather, so we just ate and chatted but I didn’t drink (I need my liver right now to metabolize all the anesthesia and medicines I had to take out of my body, not working on breaking down the alcohol units).
So, the cake was a star of the evening of course. And it was naked. It’s good enough to eat by four hungry girls. 😍
By the way, naked cake is called this way because the cake sides are not frosted, just the layers. It’s a trendy way to show off the actual cake layers and decoration techniques but it does leave you with a lighter cake as not a lot of frosting used.
This is a heart-shaped gluten free chocolate sponge cake (two 8 inch layers and 6 inch one on top) with vanilla and berry buttercreams, homemade merengue cookies, berries and edible sugar flowers.
The cake is quite light in texture as I used a Russian version of a sponge cake (egg-based and no butter or oil in the batter) and buttercreams are made of mascarpone, cream and butter that produce a fluffier frosting.
Plus all the fresh berries make a nice contrast to the sweetness of cake and buttercreams.
And airy merengues add a tangy pillowy bites to finish off this feast for the eyes.
So, how sorry are you right now that you’re nowhere near and couldn’t have even a bite of this deliciousness?! Or for not sitting on the floor and enjoying your naked time?
